Liz Sumner has spent her entire career in hospice and palliative care, working across all ages and special populations. She founded the nationally acclaimed Children's Program of San Diego Hospice and was the executive director of that program for many years. Liz has been involved with many national and state initiatives related to hospice care for infants, children, and perinatal loss. She was appointed to the Institute of Medicine's Committee of the National Academy of Science to develop the report: "When Children Die."
She has contributed at many Catholic educational meetings and initiatives, including the initial "Embracing our Dying" symposiums and video project.
She is currently the editor for the website and a published author and national lecturer, ethics committee member at Palomar Hospital, ELNEC Consultant and adjunct faculty at The University if Illinois at Chicago, School of Nursing.
Liz Sumner received her Bachelor's degree in Nursing from Marquette University, Milwaukee, WI.
Currently Liz is with The Elizabeth Hospice in Escondido CA as the Palliative Care Coordinator. She is married and has 2 daughters.
